How to Activate the AMP Theme Framework

Follow these step to Activate the AMP Theme Framework

  • Download and Install AMP Theme Framework
  • Upload and Activate
  • Done! The AMP Theme Framework will be visible on the AMP version of your site.

The themes on AMP are detected from the plugin header which has a specific attribute.

For example in amp-theme.php we have:

Plugin URI: https://wordpress.org/plugins/accelerated-mobile-pages/
Description: Create AMP Themes easily with help of AMP Framework
Version: 1.0
Author: AMPforWP Team
Author URI: http://ampforwp.com/amp-theme-framework

AMP: AMP Theme Framework
*/

In the above code, you can see the line number 9 which mentions the name of the AMP theme, this is required if you are creating an AMP Theme.

When you add this line, then AMPforWP will automatically detect it as a theme and display it in the Dropdown menu of the design selector.

You will find this option in the WordPress Dashboard -> AMP option panel -> Design -> Themes -> Select AMP Theme Framework option see the below screenshot.

When you select the theme from this dropdown and save it then it will start working.

From here, You can either Go to Template Structure or Have a look at Components.

    1. So if I download the AMP with WordPress Elementor does it allow me edit my pages with Elementor Page Builder? Do my amp pages still work and will they show up in my browser? Has this been tested?

      1. Hi Drew,

        Yes, it will work with Elementor pages and also if you want same design then use our AMP page builder compatibility plugin.

    2. Is there a way to use Amp for WP to takeover my site and use my current theme? Frankly, the themes here are not suitable for a professional presence. Thanks.

    3. I may be thick but I don´t know how to start a new page with this plugin or if this framework has a default layout to start from or how exactly works.
