About this Component

Social Icons Component is used to add two features in AMP theme.
1. Social Media Profile.
2. Social Media Sharing.

Both’s functionalities will be explained below.

How to use:

Following are the steps to use this component.

Step 1:

To initiate the support for the component in your theme just add the following code to the functions.php of the theme files.

//Social Icons
add_amp_theme_support('AMP-social-icons');

This was the back-end part where we’ve just initiated, now to make it appear in the front-end follow the next step.

Step 2:

To add the Social Icons we need to call it in the following way depending on the use-case.

i.Social Media Profile
If you want to direct the visitor to your Social Media Profile page.you can add the following code in header.php header’s div or single.php of the themes file or where you want to display in your theme.

 'twitter' => 'https://www.twitter.com/ampforwp',
 'facebook' => 'https://www.facebook.com'
 ]);?>

Here we’re setting the social media profile in a ‘key’ => ‘value’ order.
‘platform’ => ‘profile link’

ii.Social Media Sharing
If you want your visitor to share your site content on Social Media. you can add the following code in single.php of the themes file or where you want to display in your theme.

<?php amp_social(array('twitter'));?>

with this, you’re successfully able to add Social Icons and It’s different features on your theme.

      Where should I put the first code in functions.php please?

      I’ve tried several location with no sucess. Should it be after one of those?
      /* Define Theme Vars
      /* After Theme Setup
      /* After Theme Setup

      And where to place the second code if I’d like my social icons in the burger menu for instance?

      Finally, I think the last code is missing in this article for social sharing 🙂
