In a nutshell, Instead of creating extensions for each AD network, we decided to focus on one extension. With Advanced AMP Ads, you can add any AD network in the world! and we’re still improving it. We planned to add more Ad networks support by creating individual extensions but then we realized that it will be challenging to manage 40 different AD extensions so we decided that we will build only one AD extension as it will allow us to be lean and move faster.
We have pushed an update of the Advanced AMP ads plugin yesterday, it was the extension’s second update released this week. Although it may sound like a usual plugin update, we did some major changes behind the scenes.
Initially, we decided to release an extension after the popular demand. It had options to add advertisement with-in the content and some more ad features, but then people kept requesting for more AD network support. Some of the Advertisers have also got in touch with us and we’re also building their official AMP extension togeather. So that sparked the conversation of building more extensions within our team, so we then built DoubleClick extension which we released about two weeks back. We already have Media.net & couple other ad network’s support ready but we were not able to get it out quickly because, at this point, we have realized the flaw in our plan.
So after many hours of discussion, we have decided not to release individual extensions for each Ad networks but only focus on one AD extension which we will work on and make it better, we had to re-write the plugin from scratch but then managing tens of extensions is also not easy, it didn’t allow us to improve and make changes faster.
From now, There will be only one AD extension ‘Advanced AMP ADS‘. We will continuously improve this plugin, Add new features and more include Ad networks into it.
What’s new in this update:
1. In content slot upgraded to 2: We had an option where you can add advertisement within the content automatically, but only one AD. We have now added another in-content slot, so you can show 2 Ads within content automatically.
2. Support for DoubleClick for Publishers: We have extended the functionality of the plugin and add a DFP support. So you will not only be able to add DFP ads in the existing 4 AD locations but 2 new in-content ads and a Sticky AD area too.
3. Custom Textarea which supports all AD networks: We thought that AMP Ads markup is a little bit too complicated for the end users, but it turned out that people are much smarter and technical than we thought. People really wanted a way to add their own custom ads, but there was not a place for them to paste the code. So we have built a Custom TextArea box which will allow them to add any other AD network in the world and even a custom image banner if they want.
Some things to know:
