How to Test the Speed of Your AMP Pages

In this tutorial, we are explaining two of Test the Speed of your AMP pages

  1. PageSpeed Insights
  2. Gtmetrix

1. PageSpeed Insights

To get started, you’ll need to visit the PageSpeed Insights website. Then, paste your website’s URL into the search bar. This tool will take a few moments to analyze your site’s performance. Then, it will display scores for the mobile and desktop versions of your site.

Next, you’ll want to look through your report and examine any areas where you received a poor score. As we mentioned, the results are separated into mobile and desktop versions. Let’s look at the Mobile tab first:

Here, you can see your site’s overall score. Green indicates a positive result, yellow lets you know that you have some areas for improvement and red signals that your speeds are sub-par. If you scroll down, you’ll also find a more detailed breakdown:

In the Opportunity section, PageSpeed will note suggestions you can use to improve your site. .

After you’ve made note of your mobile speed improvement opportunities, click on the Desktop tab at the top of the page. This will show you the overall score for the desktop version of your site:

In addition, you’ll again see specific suggestions for improvement. Some of these may be the same as your mobile opportunities, while others may differ entirely. You can also click on the Passed audits section to see areas where your site is doing well:

Once you’ve carefully reviewed both the Mobile and Desktop tabs, you’re ready to start taking action.

2. Gtmetrix

The basic use of GTMetrix is free. You can go to the main page then, paste your website’s URL into the search bar. This tool will take a few moments to analyzing your site right away.

Next, you’ll want to look through your report and examine any areas where you received a poor score.

The results overview shows you the browser and location used for testing, PageSpeed and YSlow scores, page load time, number of requests and total page size. These are great for analyzing trends, but if you really want to know why your website is slow, and/or what can be done to further improve things, you’ll need to dig deeper.

I decided to test the loading speed of one of the AMP-enabled pages and compare it with AMP and NON-AMP. We have chosen a site one is non-amp and second is an amp we compare the same site. We tested this site on Gtmetrix.com. gets a standard loading speed of 4.3 seconds, But with AMP the page is loaded 3.8  Seconds. Almost 10x less the loading speed of Non-AMP Page.

That’s it for this tutorial!

We hope it helped you. If you have any feedback or questions, then please share them in the comments section below.
