{"id":428,"date":"2014-05-16T19:51:14","date_gmt":"2014-05-16T19:51:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/magazine3.com\/demo\/techsavvy\/?p=428"},"modified":"2014-05-16T19:51:14","modified_gmt":"2014-05-16T19:51:14","slug":"intels-ceo-looks-to-hobbyists-for-wearable-innovations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ampforwp.com\/demo\/blog\/2014\/05\/16\/intels-ceo-looks-to-hobbyists-for-wearable-innovations\/","title":{"rendered":"Xiaomi announces Mi Band Pulse, a $16 wearable heart rate monitor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(Reuters) &#8211; Intel Corp&#8217;s Chief Executive Officer Brian Krzanich mingled with\u00a0<span class=\"mandelbrot_refrag\">electronics<\/span>\u00a0buffs at Silicon Valley&#8217;s annual maker mecca on Saturday as the chipmaker looks to amateur inventors to inspire a new wave of smart clothing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">With sales of smartphones losing steam, technology companies including Intel believe that wearable computing devices &#8211; a still undefined category including smart watches, fitness trackers and\u00a0<span class=\"mandelbrot_refrag\">Google<\/span>\u00a0Glass &#8211; could become a major trend in personal computing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">But smartwatches and fitness bands launched by Samsung\u00a0<span class=\"mandelbrot_refrag\">Electronics<\/span>\u00a0Co Ltd and other tech companies in the past year have yet to really take off.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">At the Maker Faire in San Mateo, California, Krzanich told Reuters that successful smart clothes will come from individual inventors focused on their own needs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;The trick to making the perfect wearable is going to be when you figure out what problems you&#8217;re trying to solve, and I don&#8217;t think you&#8217;re going to be able to build a wearable that does it all for everyone,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;Who better to design the next athletic wearable than an athlete,&#8221; added Krzanich.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Thousands of people attended the open-air event, which gives hobbyists and their families a chance to socialize and check out other people&#8217;s projects.
